SPC Office Products received an honor at Friday morning’s Dumas/Moore County Chamber of Commerce Networking Breakfast.
The business received the Customer Service Award. The award was presented by Chairman of the Board Jim Haugen. Accepting was Kyle Humphrey of SPC Office Products.
“We want to honor people we feel are doing it right,” Haugen said before presenting the award. Another Customer Service Award will be presented at the next Networking Breakfast, which is scheduled for May 7. Other breakfasts include Aug. 6 and Nov. 5.
State Representative David Swinford was the guest speaker at Friday’s breakfast. He said it has been an honor to be able to serve the area for the past 20 years in the legislature and he provided a “thumbnail sketch of the past” before addressing the future of the area.
Wind energy is a project that was started in the past and will continue well into the future. Swinford pointed on the impact wind energy has by saying the tax base of Oldham County was tripled by one wind farm. That increase in the tax base will make it possible for community betterment and lower taxes.
Currently, Moore County is closing in on the 100 megawatt mark. Each turbine produces around 1.25 megawatts of power and each tower costs between $1.5 million to $1.7 million.
The next big step in wind energy is transmission lines.
He also addressed what Dumas and Moore County have meant to him over the years saying, “I needed Dumas’ support many times and you were always there.” He concluded by saying how important it is to vote in the upcoming election to make sure you have someone who will have your best interests at heart.
In other Chamber news, the annual banquet has been set for March 30 at 6:30 p.m. Call 935-2123 for more information.
