This summer, Dumas High varsity football coach Mike Burt and his staff have been dotting the i’s and crossing the t’s in preparation for the upcoming fall gridiron season.
When two-a-day practices begin Monday, August 9, offensive formations and special package sets will be reviewed from the spring.
“We want to be more multiple from a formation standpoint,” said Burt.“We have traditionally been a one back spread team with the shotgun and from under center. Last year we incorporated more two back sets, like most teams in the state of Texas.”.
Burt said a good coach runs what can accentuate the talent level given that particular year.
“We still have our primary plays that we brought in 2007 and continue to run at all levels (Grades 7-12). The verbiage will vary from year to year as we do not choose to stagnate in 2010,” Burt said. “We still have and will operate from three backs in the backfield to no backs.”
Burt said that the team philosophy would be to continue to mix the shotgun and under center quarterback sets to keep defensive teams honest. He added we will add a few wrinkles, formation-wise, for district play. He ended by saying that the team will have fun this fa,ll.
Burt also said that the Quarterback Booster Club has a new set of officers for the 2010 season.
Officers include:
Togo Hallford - President
Mark Hatley - Vice President
Chris Gerber - Secretary
Laura and Joe Brunson - Treasurers.
