The second and final reading to repeal the city’s landscape Ordinance No. 1089, Chapter 98, Article VI, Division 4 was voted on during Tuesday night’s city commissioner’s meeting that took place in the municipal courtroom. City Commissioner David Bonner initiated the repeal during the Dec. 19 regular meeting.
“I was on the committee that passed the landscaping ordinance. It was designed to beautify Dumas,” Sims said seemingly opposing the repeal at the Dec. 19 meeting.
Bonner based his argument for the repeal on the recent water supply issues and in the best interest of the citizens of Dumas.
“We have water problems and then we are forcing people to landscape and use water.”
Following a vote of four in favor and one against, the repealing of the landscape ordinance was approved.
