A two-vehicle accident north of Dumas on U.S. 287 resulted in the death of a 26-year-old Cactus woman. According to Gabriel Medrano with the Texas Department of Public Safety in Amarillo, Angelica Duran Vera of Cactus died from injuries sustained in an accident that took place near the U.S. 287 railroad crossing just north of Dumas Monday morning.
Trooper Medrano said Vera was driving a 2004 Nissan when she struck a 1995 Freightliner hauling a trailer. The truck was stopped in the right-hand lane at the railroad crossing. Vera did not see the truck and trailer stopped and collided with the trailer.
The trooper said Vera was taken to Northwest Texas Hospital in Amarillo where she died just before noon on Monday. She was wearing her seat belt at the time of the accident.
