Dumas Independent School District's Board of Trustees were provided an update on the tuberculosis screenings that took place on Feb. 5 at Dumas Intermediate School.
Superintendent Mark Stroebel said the district was contacted by the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) on Jan. 28 regarding a suspected case of active tuberculosis (TB). The DSHS then began to identify students and staff for screening.
Stroebel said a staff meeting was conducted at the intermediate campus on Jan. 29 and letters were sent to parents of all the identified children on Jan. 31. Letters were signed and returned by parents on Feb. 1 and the skin test took place on Feb. 5.
In all, 150 students and staff members were tested. Results of those tests were read on Feb. 7 and the same process will take place again in eight weeks with the skin tests being read on April 11.
Stroebel said the district has been instructed to direct anyone seeking information about the TB screenings to the DSHS.
