Winter storm blasts our region

A potent winter storm is bringing significant snowfall and strong winds through the area today.
Due to the storm, delivery of the Thursday edition of the News-Press may be delayed until Wednesday evening or Thursday. We will keep you posted here.
The weather has resulted in many school closures, including Channing and Sunray schools. As of the time of this post, Dumas ISD had not announced whether or not it was cancelling classes.
According to the latest National Weather Service forecast snow with widespread blowing snow will continue before noon, then snow likely with widespread blowing snow after noon. The snow could be heavy at times. High near 32. Wind chill values between 6 and 16. Very windy, with a north northwest wind 30 to 40 mph, with gusts as high as 60 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Total daytime snow accumulation of around 4 inches or more.
Tonight Areas of blowing snow. Partly cloudy, with a low around 11. Wind chill values between -2 and 8. Windy, with a northwest wind 20 to 30 mph decreasing to 10 to 20 mph after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 40 mph.
