Congratulations to Demon wrestling coach Carl Clements and his team for the success they saw this season. This was the best finish for the wrestling program at the state level since Clements took over the program.
In a phone conversation following the state tournament I could hear the pride in his voice as he spoke about the boysí success in Austin.
Two of his five state qualifiers earned top six finishes at the state wrestling tournament. This is no easy feat to accomplish as you have to wrestle your way past the best of the best.
Each weight class featured the 16 best Class 4A wrestlers from across the Lone Star State. Each of our Dumas wrestlers won at least one of their matchups.
Consider the journey Jose Aleman took to post his fourth place finish...
Aleman dropped his opening match and had to wrestle his way back for a shot to finish third in the state. After his initial loss, Aleman went on to win four straight to position himself in the third place match. He ended up falling to Colton Stowe of The Colony in that contest, but still finished with an impressive 4-2 record and a fourth place finish.
Iíve witnessed the state wrestling tournament first hand. It is a crazy atmosphere. Matches are going on all over the floor. The crowd is noisy and it is a blast to watch.
I was fortunate to get to write state champion stories because of Dumas wrestling (Taylor Torisk and Jason Logan) and Iím sure Clements and the Demons are edging their way closer to bringing home another individual state championship in the future.
Again, congratulations to the state qualifiers as well as the regional qualifiers and the rest of the team for a job well done this season.
Keep up the good work.
