The Moore County Commissioners on Monday voted not to reappoint the chairman and vice chairman of the Moore County Hospital District's board of directors and, instead, named two new members to serve on the board.
Alvia Calvert and Rick Russwurm were the MCHD board's chairman and vice chairman, respectively, but their appointments to the board were terminated as the commissioners voted to place Charlie Hernandez of Dumas and John Frantz of Hartley on the MCHD board of directors.
The vote to replace Calvert and Russwurm was not unanimous. Commissioner Len Sheets voted against placing Hernandez and Frantz on the board, and Commissioner Milton Pax voted against Hernandez's appointment.
"I see no use in changing the board to the extent we're thinking," said Sheets. "The present board knows they have some problems. They're going to be on tract to alleviate those problems. I just hate to see us do a complete turnaround on that board at this time."
The problems to which Sheets alluded are long-standing and have been little publicized, but they finally spilled into the public's hearing March 18 when several physicians told the commissioners of their mistrust, dissatisfaction and lack of confidence in the hospital's board and its CEO.
