Dumas Independent School District elementary campuses are safer as students return to classes Monday. The district undertook a construction project to install security walls at each of the elementary campuses to restrict entry into the schools.

DISD Police Chief Larry Payne said the district has two top priorities:
Providing a quality education; and
Ensuring a safe and secure environment for the staff and students.

The new secure entries require visitors to be given access into the schools' hallways by office staff. There will continue to be a sign-in computer at the entrances as well.
