Alibates Flint Quarries National Monument will host a “Star Party” this Saturday, Oct. 26 at 6:30 pm at the park visitor center.
Professor Arthur Schneider, Director of Renewable Energy at Amarillo College, will give an interpretive program on the night sky and stars of the Panhandle area.  The program will begin with a presentation in the theater, followed by an outdoor viewing in the parking lot of the visitor center.  A 16" reflecting telescope will be provided, which will allow participants to observe star clusters and galaxies, including the Andromeda.
Professor Schneider has conducted star parties at Palo Duro Canyon State Park and Clayton Lake State Park, and provided numerous star parties and school visits for solar viewing in the Panhandle.
Participants should bring warm jackets and lawn chairs – hot chocolate will be provided.  The evening’s activities will conclude about 9 pm.  In case of inclement or cloudy weather, the event will be cancelled.
