A look back at the year that was 2013
Jan 28, 2014, 14:42

Over the past couple of weeks we have been sifting through all the news that made up the year 2013. It is always a fun, challenging time, figuring out which of the year’s stories to feature in our annual Year in Review edition.
Today’s edition features our picks for some of the top stories of 2013. We’ve organized them by month and we’ve included updates to as many of the stories as possible. We hope you enjoy the look back as much as we have enjoyed preparing it for you.
Some of the things that happened last January seem like they were being place on the front page just a few days or weeks ago. It just goes to show how fast the time passes by.
As with every year there are stories featuring good news and then there are those that bear the worst type of news — involving the loss of life.
Moore County had far too many accidents involving loss of life in 2013 — including two separate accidents that claimed a total of 11 lives.
One of those lives lost was that of Christopher Moore. He was one of six people who lost their lives as a result of a two-vehicle accident in rural Moore County.
Any time there is loss of life, it is a difficult story for me to write about. This particular accident hit too close to home. Chris was a young man close to my heart. He spent a lot of time with me and my son when he was a little younger. He would come to our house and spend a few hours, or sometimes spend the night, and the three of us would just hang out and have fun listening to music and playing video games.
It is still hard to believe Chris and the other teens, along with the truck driver in the other vehicle, lost their lives as a result of injuries sustained in that accident.
Of course, looking back at 2013 isn’t just focusing on the bad things that happened. There were plenty of good things that took place this past year. There were a lot of honors, recognitions and just good hometown news that we featured in 2013.
Please take a few moments and enjoy the look back at 2013. We’ll start collecting the top stories of of 2014 to share with you next January in the 2014 Year in Review.
Until then... happy reading!
