DYWC places 21 at Rockin’ in the Eagle’s Nest

They were rocking, indeed.
The Dumas Youth Wrestling Club went through another stellar weekend on the mat, placing 21 of 27 young grapplers at the “Rockin’ in the Eagle’s Nest” event on Dec. 9 at the Canyon Intermediate School.
Hosted by the West Texas Grapplers wrestling club, the “Rockin’ in the Eagle’s Nest” tournament had an overall number of 185 wrestlers.
Next up for the DYWC was the Dumas Invitational Open, which was held this past Saturday at the DHS Gymnasium. It will be the final wrestling tournament that the DYWC will participate in before Christmas.
Results from the daylong tournament hosted by the DYWC will be posted in an upcoming edition of the Moore County News-Press.
Abram Loya continued his stellar 2017-2018 season with another solid performance, placing first in the 48 lbs. weight class of the Tot Division. Abram also attained a second place finish in the 50 lbs. subdivision of Division 1.
Sebastian Ortiz competed in the 60 lbs. bracket of the Tot Division, placing second by the end of the day.
Chapo Ortiz and Conner Smith headlined Division I for the DYWC, as Chapo battled his way toward a first place showing in the 42 lbs. bracket while Smith earned a first place finish in the 46 lbs. subdivision.
Andy DiMarco (55 lbs.), Mason Zubia (60 lbs.) and Bobby Reeves (80 lbs.) all took second place in Division I. Jonny Falcon also participated in the Canyon tournament, placing second in the heavyweight bracket.
Ricardo Rocha (65 lbs.) and Angel Jara (80 lbs.) landed in third place in their respective brackets, followed by Draven Sandoval’s fourth place performance in the 46 lbs. bracket.
Daniel Acosta (75 lbs.), Zbastian Jara (92 lbs.) and Eli Garcia (100 lbs.) headlined Division 2, as each DYWC member took home first place medals in their respective weight classes.
Cody Austin battled his way toward a second place finish in the 115 lbs. bracket, followed by Blayke Rogers’ third place showing in the 52 lbs. subdivision and Aiden DiMarco’s fourth place outing in the 55 lbs. weight class.
Division 3 saw Jayden Sanchez wreck shop, as the young grappler claimed the top spot in the 110 lbs. weight class. Mason Erlenbach fought through the 75 lbs. bracket, taking third place at the tournament.
Blake Austin was the lone DYWC representative in Division 4, landing in third place in the 110 lbs. weight class.
Lane Sadler, Jace Loya, Aydn Stone, Ezra Montoya and Edwin Sanchez also participated in the tournament.
