Saturday at Window on the Plains Museum, will have something for everyone! It's Museum Day!
The day begins with registration of entries in the “Best in the West” pie contest. The pie contest will be held in The Art Center classroom. Registration begins at 8:30. Following the judging, pies will be sold, not in a live auction, but by written bids.
The fifteenth annual event kicks off at 9. m. with registration for the Car Show and the Tractor Show. Cars will be judged in categories according to the age of the vehicle. One car will receive the “Best History” award. Visitors will vote on “People’s Choice” award for their favorite car. The car show is co-sponsored by the Amarillo Antique Car Club.
Tractors will be voted on by visitors and the winner will also receive the people’s choice award. A parade of tractors will start around noon and Tractor Olympics will follow the parade. Tractors will compete in six categories — Egg Balance, Trailer Backing, Candy Drop, Slow Race, Chain Race and Fast Race. Tractor competition is a lot of fun — be sure not to miss this!
Pulled pork sandwiches, chips, and drink will be served sack lunch style in the area south of the building from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tables will be available in the playground area and under shade trees for eating. Cake, cookies and ice cream will be served in The Art Center Classroom from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. or until sold out.
A sidewalk chalk painting contest will be held in front of The Art Center beginning a 1 p.m. The Art Center will be filled with over 40 colorful quilts. Visitors will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite. The Art Center will also have an area for family games and visitors are invited to stop and enjoy playing their favorite game.
Outside activities include a barrel bronco ride and a train ride for kids. The 4-H Nature Crafts workshop will be held in the museum conference room from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The popular grab bags will be available. Several raffles will be held during the day. A drawing for a 40-inch television, courtesy of Woody’s Furniture, will be held at 3:30. The Art Center will also be drawing for a queen-size quilt, made by the Stitchin’ Sisters. Also, in the 3:30 drawings will be three winners in the gun raffle and three winners in the Pit Boss grills and custom made roll-top desk raffle. Winner of the 50/50 raffle will also be announced.
