Amanda Garcia of Houston won the 2019 Jeep Wrangler Saturday night shortly before Dogie Days 2019 came to another watery end. The weather was near perfect for the parade earlier in the day, and though the sky was starting to darken by around 8:00 pm, the midway was crowded with people enjoying rides, playing games, and eating food. There was a huge crowd by the pavilion, where members of the Dumas Noon Lions Club were selling last-minute chances on the Jeep until literally the last second before Addie Elsheimer, Lions Club Sweetheart for 2018-2019, walked to the hopper at 9:00 pm and drew out the winning ticket. The name on the ticket: Amanda Garcia. Head Wrangler Phil Guerra made the announcement to the waiting crowd. No response. He tried to call the phone number on the ticket. Finally, Amanda Garcia and her husband, Oscar, came forward, but this Amanda Garcia was the wrong Amanda. The actual winner was her daughter, also Amanda, who lives in Houston. It did not take long before family friend Brenda Ordonez had a grinning Amanda Garcia on the phone from Houston. "She is very happy," said her father, Oscar Garcia. "She had been sad, because she was having to drive an old car." The only challenge now is to get Amanda Garcia in Houston together with her new 2019 Jeep Wrangler in Dumas. According to Boss Lion David Tapp, the arrangements have not been made yet for her to take possession.
Less than a half hour later, a thunderstorm with high winds and torrential rain hit Dumas, sending people racing for their cars. Dogie Days 2019 was over.
