A 50-year-old Dumas man is dead following a vehicle vs. pedestrian accident that took place Thursday around 12:30 a.m.

According to information from the Texas Department of Public Safety, Jerry Rodriguez of Dumas walked across US Highway 87 about 5 miles south of Dumas, failing to yield right of way to a 2004 Peterbilt truck tractor towing a semi-trailer. The driver of the truck, a 31-year-old man from Ingalls, Kansas, was not injured in the incident. Rodriguez was pronounced dead at the scene by Moore County Justice of the Peace Barbara Mulanax.

The Texas Department of Public Safety says the crash remains under investigation and information may be changed, corrected or added based on the findings of their investigation.

Road and weather conditions at the time of the accident were dry and clear.
