Tracy Torisk and Miles Mixon of Valero Energy presented a check for $150,000 to members of the board of trustees, administration, and athletic staff of the Dumas Independent School District (DISD) Thursday at the stadium field house. The money is for a new, more modern scoreboard for the stadium that will be capable of showing video replays and messages, among other things. It will replace an aging scoreboard that was limited to showing the time, the score, and a few other basic pieces of information.
"Thank you from the bottom of my heart," said DISD Athletic Director Stan Stroebel.
"We are just always glad to help support Dumas youth and contribute what we can from Valero," said Torisk. "It is an ongoing commitment to the community."
"Our athletic director, Stan Stroebel, did a request for funding … to see if they would be willing to pay for a new scoreboard in exchange for 10 years of advertising on the scoreboard," said DISD Superintendent Monty Hysinger. "It will … probably be located on the east end of the football field, and it will be really nice. It was a very nice gift. We feel very privileged. … It will be great for our kids and great for the school district."
"Just very blessed," said Dumas High School Head Football Coach and Assistant Athletic Director Aaron Dunnam. "It just shows Valero's commitment to our community, to DISD, and to our kids. It is just a great addition to our football stadium … a great environment out here every Friday night, and this new video board will just add to that."
