John “Johnny” Bailey, 66, of Pampa passed away on Monday, February 24, 2020 in Amarillo.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, February 28, 2020 at Briarwood Church with Rev. Lynn Hancock, pastor, and Pastor Johnny Plum, pastor of Grace Refuge Church in Bristow, Oklahoma, officiating.  Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.

John was born May 19, 1953 in Wheeler to Jasper “Jap” and Alice Bailey.  He attended school in Mobeetie until his sophomore year when he started school in Pampa.  He graduated from Pampa High School in 1972.  Soon after graduation he enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served from 1973 until 1978.  On July 22, 1978 he married Deborah O’Neal in Shamrock. They celebrated 41 years of marriage.  After they married, they lived in Childress for 2 years before moving to Pampa.  Johnny worked full time and began taking college classes at Clarendon College in 1980 and in 1984 he graduated from West Texas State University with a bachelor’s in accounting.  He went on to take the CPA exam and began to practice as a Certified Public Accountant.  He owned his own accounting business in Pampa for a short time before he would begin his Chief Financial Officer duties at Golden Plains Community Hospital in Borger for a few years.  He finished his career with Moore County Hospital District in Dumas where he has worked there for 12 years.  He was looking forward to retiring in October of this year.  

When Johnny was growing up, he enjoyed team roping and had a love for horses. He had a passion for Hi Lonesome Ranch, the family ranch near Mobeetie.  This ranch has a special place in the hearts of the family as they would spend wonderful times there together.  Over the last few years he and his son, Mark, started a cow/calf operation at the ranch.  Johnny discovered his love for golf when his sons started playing in high school.  His grandchildren called him PaPa and they were the loves of his life.

Johnny was preceded in death by his parents, mother and father in law, Earl and Edna Fay O’Neal, a nephew, Tommy Ladd Forbes, and his sweet little companion dachshund, Susie.

Survivors include his wife Debbie of the home; 3 sons, Matthew John Bailey and wife Alisha, Mark Edward Bailey and wife Luzann all of Pampa, and Luke Anthony Bailey and wife Jennifer of Amarillo; 2 sisters, Judy Parker and husband Larry and Betty Sue Blevins all of Pampa; 8 grandchildren, Tate, Logan, Ethan, Lane, Jarron, Noah, Shane, and Sadie; 2 sisters-in-law, Kathy Johnson and husband Tim of Pampa and Rebecca Chisum and husband Ron of Amarillo; 14 nieces and nephews, Shon Kysar, Julie Chadwick, Jason Kysar, John Forbes, Alan Parker, Josh Parsons, Jarrett Parsons, Patrick Parsons, Seth Lewis, Jacob Lewis, and Christopher Lewis, Hollie Parsons, Sabrina Adams, and Brock Parker and numerous great nieces, nephews, friends, and coworkers.

Memorials can be sent to the Mobeetie Cemetery Association in care of Happy State Bank, Box 8, Mobeetie, Texas 79061.
