Another school year has come to an end, and it is time to take a moment and congratulate all the seniors who have earned their high school diplomas.

Thankfully, local students were able to complete the school year with minimal interruption from the COVID-19 pandemic, unlike the members of the Class of 2020 who had the last half of their senior year turned upside down.

As things begin to return to pre-COVID days, things are about to get really exciting for the graduating seniors of Dumas and Sunray schools.

Some students will venture off to junior college or to four-year universities while some of the graduates will begin looking for full-time jobs to help support their families.

Whatever road you are taking, I hope that road is paved with success, good health, the love and support of family and friends, and I hope each of you young people achieve whatever it is you set out to accomplish.

The possibilities are endless.

But, before the venture down those new roads begin, the road through the public school system comes to an end.

Seniors, I hope you take in the moment. Remember all the good times, and learn from all the hard times. Never forget how proud you feel about what you have accomplished.

Each of you and your families should be proud. This is a milestone in life. Believe me, before long (in what seems like a blink of an eye) you will be staring at an invitation for your 30th, 40th  or 50th class reunion wondering where the heck the time has gone.

After graduation, it seems as if life puts its foot on the gas pedal and doesn’t let off. Enjoy the ride, but take time for the things that really matter — find love, start a family, travel... whatever makes you happy.

Also put in an honest day’s work, help others when you can, and do what you can to help make this world a better place.

When this journey through life comes to an end, it’s not about what you take with you... it’s about what you leave behind. Don’t miss the opportunity to make your mark.

You, Class of 2021, are our future. I have faith that you will succeed. Congratulations to each of you. May you achieve all you set out to accomplish and much, much more.
