Dear Editor,

Thanks to all who helped provide the fireworks show at the Dumas stadium July 4. It was a nice tribute to our nation.

Thanks also to the News-Press for noting in the mid-week edition that any other shooting of fireworks within the city of Dumas was illegal.

However, our neighborhood was loud with fireworks and cascading rockets from residential yards long into the evening. It was the worst I have seen in a good many years.

I was not aware of any announcement about just where people could go to set off their personally bought fireworks. If the selling of fireworks is going to be allowed in the area, then it seems like an area should be designated for legal detonation of fireworks. I believe there was a time when the landfill could be used, but now?

Yours truly,

Joan Criswell
