Coming off their 41-6 performance last week in Hooker, Oklahoma, the Sunray Bobcats looked to continue their winning ways in Dimmitt. And another outstanding showing of leadership, quarterback Tate DeBord continued to impress.
Sunray scored first with 2:52 on the clock in the first. They didn't score again until late in the third quarter on a 39-yard strike from DeBord to Julian Espino. Jorge Hermosillo kicked the extra point and the Bobcats were up 14-0 over Dimmitt.
Special teams got in on the action in the fourth quarter as Dimmitt was backed up and had to punt. As the ball was snapped, it flew into the endzone and Sunray recovered for a safety.
The final score came with 2:59 left in the game on a short 4-yard run by DeBord. Hermosillo missed the extra point, but the Bobcats were up 22-0.
That was the final score as the Sunray defense shut down the opposing offense and the Bobcats picked up their third win of the season.
DeBord rushed 20 times for 70 yards and a touchdown. He completed 7-of-13 of his passes for 174 yards and two touchdowns.
Hermosillo caught a pass for a score and Espino had two catches for 71 yards and a score. Carlos Castellanos had 11 carries for 58 yards.
Sunray picked up 20 first downs. They had 186 yards on the ground and 174 through the air for a total of 360 total offensive yards. The defense allowed only six first downs and 105 total offensive yards.
Sunray returns home on Friday, Sept. 18, as they will face the Commanches of West Texas High for a 7 p.m. kickoff at Bobcat Stadium.
