The district wrestling meet was held over the weekend. Dumas took second place at the District 3-5A tournament scoring 287 points. Placing first was Randall with 291.5 points.

Next up for the wrestlers is regional action in El Paso Friday and Saturday, Feb. 15 and 16. Dumas will send 13 to Regionals.

The Dumas JV wrestling squad finishes out the season with high marks. Information provided by head coach Clint Chamblin both teams had strong outings this year.

The Dumas JV No. 1 team finished the season with a dual record of 14-6. The No. 2 JV team finished the season with a dual record of 6-7.

The JV teams placed within the top 10 in varsity tournaments, according to Chamblin. The squad placed fourth at Eads and seventh at Lamar.

The JV No. 1 team had wins over Alamosa, Colo., JV; Highlands Ranch, Colo., varsity; Canyon, JV; Caprock, JV; Tascosa, JV; El Paso El Dorado, varsity; El Paso Eastlake, varsity; Caprock, varisty; Canyon, varsity; Randall, JV; Amarillo High, JV; Bushland, varsity; Canyon, varsity and Wolfforth Frenship, varsity.

The team lost to Rocky Ford, Colo., varsity; Roosevelt, Colo., varsity; Pueblo Centennial, Colo., varsity; Tascosa, varsity; Randall, varsity and Hereford, varsity.

Standouts for JV this season were – 120 pounds, freshman, Chris Hernandez; 120 pounds, freshman, Marcus Montes; 126 pounds, freshman, Michael Bargas; 145 pounds, freshman, Cannon Speck; 152 pounds, sophomore, Bryan Martinez; 220 pounds, sophomore, Karlo Sanchez and 285 pounds, sophomore, Josue DeSantiago.

"Each one of these guys were able to find their way into the varsity lineup off and on and had a strong finish to their season," Chamblin said. "They were able to compete at a high level on a consistent and regular basis. I'm extremely proud of how our JV performed this year and look forward to seeing these guys in action next year."
