The Dumas Demonettes are making their second round within district competition as they hosted the Pampa Lady Harvesters on Saturday, Oct. 10. The first meeting between these two teams back in the district opener on Sept. 22 Resulted in a five-set win for Dumas.
The varsity squad took control of the first set and won 25-12. The second set was a little closer, but Dumas pulled out the win 25-22. The Demonettes went back to work in the third set and fought through to take a big lead. The Lady Harvesters kept fighting and closed in, but the Demonettes got the win 25-17.
In the game for the varsity Demonettes, Brenley Rodriguez and Brooklyn Sianez each had nine kills. Rodriguez also had three aces and 3.5 blocks. Sheda Madit had six blocks at the net. Jazzy Ortiz recorded an impressive 19 digs, while Abree Elsheimer had seven.
Also for the Demonettes, Halie Coon had 14 assists and Karyme Castillo had eight.
The varsity team improves to 14-6 and 4-2 in district play.
The JV and freshman squads both competed on Saturday, with the JV girls going 25-16, 25-22 to take the match 2-0.
The freshman team pulled a nail-biter in the first set, and ultimately fell 26-28. They rebounded in the second set commanded the court to win 25-10, forcing a third set. The girls fell behind early. However, they gathered some momentum and gained some traction, but couldn't come back. The Demonettes dropped the third set 20-25.
The Demonettes next go on the road to Hereford to take on the Lady Whitefaces on Tuesday, Oct. 13.
