Dumas quarterback Spencer Williams (9) throws a pass Friday, Sept. 14, 2018, at Memorial Stadium in Wichita Falls.

The Dumas Demons hit the road Friday for a lengthy trip to Wichita Falls to face off against the Wichita Falls High Coyotes. Unfortunately for the Demons, Friday night’s trip didn’t yield the result they were hoping for as Dumas fell by 12, 47-35.

Wichita Falls struck paydirt late in the first quarter as Makkedah Brown ran in from a yard out. Kordell Dorman's kick gave the Coyotes a 7-0 lead with 17 seconds to go.

The Coyotes added seven more points to their lead midway through the second quarter as Anthony Vargas scored on a 3-yard run (Dorman kick) to make it 14-0.

The Demons managed to cut the lead to seven less than four minutes later when Jacob Mares rumbled 34 yards for a score. Coupled with Ah Lee Yart's kick, the touchdown cut the deficit to seven, 14-7.

Wichita Falls finished out the first half scoring two touchdowns within 31 seconds of each other. The first came on a Vargas run from eight yards out and the second was a 20-yard strike in the passing game. Dorman went 1-for-2 on those extra points, giving the Coyotes a 27-7 halftime lead.

Dumas fared much better in the second half, producing 14 points in both the third and fourth quarters.

After a Wichita Falls touchdown to begin the third quarter, Dumas posted back-to-back scores off of runs by Cito Rodriguez (5 yards) and Mares (8 yards). Yart made good on both extra-point attempts.

Yart also had two successful PATs in the fourth quarter as the Demon offensive machine produced 14 more points off a 43-yard pass from Spencer Williams to Rodriguez and a Mares run from a yard out. However, the Demons were unable to erase the 20-point first half deficit and fell to the Coyotes, 47-35.

Williams connected on 10 of his 21 pass attempts in the game, throwing for 138 yards and a touchdown. He also threw three interceptions.

Williams’ passes were completed to five different receivers in the game. Wyatt Legg and Kyle Stroebel each had three catches. Stroebel’s catches led to 37 yards and Lay’s three catches went for 23 yards. Rodriguez had two catches for 51 yards and a touchdown while Delgado and Mares had a catch apiece for 14 and 13 yards respectively.

The Demons had 243 rushing yards in the game. Mares had 157 of those rushing yards. Rodriguez posted 33 yards on the ground, Williams had 21 rushing yards, Omar Delgado ran for 15 yards, Luis Ramos had 13 yards and Trace Hallford carried once for four yards.

Yart went 5-for-5 on extra-point attempts.

Dumas is now 1-2 on the season and will be looking to notch a road win Friday evening in Plainview where they face off against the Bulldogs. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
