BORGER — The Sunray Bobcat varsity football team defeated the Shamrock Irish 53-35 Friday, Nov. 11 to earn their first bi-district victory since 2015. Armando Lujan led the Bobcats as he went 35-of-46 for 504 yards and four touchdowns.
The Irish got on the board first with a 65-yard touchdown pass from Kit Macina to Caden Peevey to go up 7-0 with the extra point. Sunray answered with a Lujan touchdown run from one yard out to tie the game at 7-7 at the end of the first quarter.
Sunray scored two more touchdowns in the second quarter, a Lujan touchdown pass to Kagan Davis and another on the ground from three yards out. The Bobcat defense allowed only one score and a missed two-point conversion to give Sunray a 21-13 lead going into the half.
Lujan picked up where he left off in the third quarter throwing another touchdown to Dawson Bennett from two yards out. With the successful two-point conversion the Bobcats led the Irish 29-13. Shamrock answered with a 70-yard touchdown run from Rodney Holmes; the two-point conversion cut into the Bobcat lead as the Irish trailed 29-21. Sunray scored two more touchdowns while giving up one more to the Irish to lead 41-27 headed into the fourth.
The Bobcats put the game out of reach by scoring 12 points in the fourth quarter while allowing only eight to give them the 53-35 victory.
Dominic Caesarea finished with 10 rushes for 58 yards, and Kagan David recorded 11 receptions for 161 yards and two touchdowns. Damian Barragan ended the night with six receptions for 139 yard.
