The Dumas Junior High School seventh grade volleyball teams went on the road Thursday, Sept. 5, to face off with the Lady Eagles of Canyon. Both A and B teams lost in two sets in the match to go 1-1 on the season.
The A team struggled early in the game, according to head coach Zeb Abbott. They simply couldn’t overcome the adversity and fell short of a victory. Canyon took the first two sets 18-25 and 18-25.
However, in the game for the Demonettes, Hailey Vasquez had two kills, two aces and a tip. Rylee Schacher also had two kills.
Jazlyn Flores had an assist and shot three aces from the line. Madison Willis had an ace, as did Haliee Martin, who also had two assists for the Demonettes.
Libby Weatherford had one tip and Adi Farni recorded a dig.
“This is an athletic group of girls,” Abbott said. “They will bounce back.”
The B team kept the first set close, but fell 23-25. The Lady Eagles took the second set 13-25.
Several Demonettes recorded aces. Sania Reyes had two, while Serese Guillen, Berkley Funderburg, Arelie Vasquez, Andrea Aguirre and Yazlene Garcia each had one. Aguirre also came in with an assist on the night.
Miranda Fewell had a tip and Jazzlyn Talamantes recorded a dig for the Demonettes.
The Demonettes hosted Coronado on Monday. Results will appear in a future edition. They have another home matchup with Westover on Sept. 16, beginning at 5 p.m.
