The Sunray Lady Cats varsity softball team defeated the Sanford-Fritch Lady Eagles 4-0 Tuesday, Mar.21. Mia Gray continued her strong year from the circle giving up three hits with zero runs.
Liberty Heidenreich put Sunray on the board in the bottom of the first inning with a hard single to center field to bring in Carly Neely to give the Lady Cats a 1-0 lead.
The Lady Cats extended its lead with a Maricruz Gonzalez deep single to bring in three runs for the go ahead 4-0 lead.
Gray continued to shut down the Lady Eagles at the plate, along with Lady Cats’ defense to keep them off the board for the 4-0 victory.
“I thought we dug ourselves into some holes, but were able to climb out with big plays at critical moments. Our batting was better than it’s been all year, and our ability to keep the ball in front truly made the difference. Mia threw, and Ariadna caught, an incredible game,” said head coach Wes Boatmun.
The Lady Cats’ record sits at 12-5 overall and 2-0 in district play.
Sunray will be back in action when they host the Gruver Lady Greyhounds Tuesday, Mar. 28 at 4 p.m.
