By the time of the mile relays, the wind chill had plummeted down to 11 degrees. The chilly weather served as an antithesis of a late spring track meet.

Alas, the show had to go on.

Enduring through the cold elements was the Sunray Middle School track and field teams, who braved the chilly elements at the District 1-2A Junior High Track Meet, held on March 6 at Bobcat Stadium.

When the dust settled and the lights – which had to come on toward the end of the meet – were turned off, the Sunray seventh grade girls had claimed a district title with a final score of 173 points.

The 8th Ladycats placed third at the meet, while the seventh and eighth grade boys completed the meet with a fifth place showings on the final team leaderboard.

West Texas Middle School won the seventh grade boys’ division, while Sanford-Fritch won the eight grade boys’ division. Gruver topped the team standings on the eighth grade girls’ side of the meet.

With the conclusion of the track meet came the conclusion of the 2017-2018 Sunray Junior High athletics schedule.
